Application and defence of the doctoral thesis


The postgraduate university study programme will be completed after passing all the exams and creating and publicly defending a scientific doctoral thesis

i) Completion, submission, and evaluation of the doctoral thesis

 

After the doctoral thesis is complete, the postgraduate study programme student’s mentor will issue a certificate on the form OB-7-8-5 Mentor’s Certificate on the Completion and Submission of the Doctoral Thesis.

 

The Faculty Council will appoint the Committee for the Evaluation of the Doctoral Thesis which will submit a report to the Council no later than 90 days after receiving the doctoral thesis, on the form OB 7-8-6 Report on the Evaluation of the Doctoral Thesis.

 

After the positive evaluation of the doctoral thesis is accepted, usually during the same session, the Faculty Council will appoint the Committee for the Defence of the Doctoral Thesis of at least three members and two alternates, and specify the date and location of the defence. 

 

ii) Public defence of the doctoral thesis

  

The applicant will defend the doctoral thesis before the Committee for the Defence of the Doctoral Thesis, and minutes will be kept for the defence of the doctoral thesis which will be signed by the members of the Committee and the minutes keeper. The decision of the Committee for the Defence of the Doctoral Thesis will be entered in the minutes. 

 

The decision of the Committee for the Defence of the Doctoral Thesis may be:

  • Defended by a unanimous decision of the Committee;
  • Defended by the majority of the votes of the Committee members;
  • Not defended.

 

After a successful defence of the doctoral thesis, the doctoral student must submit a bound doctoral thesis and the electronic version of the thesis to the secretariat of the study programme holder within one month after the defence date, in at least 5 copies, and they must fill in and sign the form OB-7-8-8 Statement on Archiving of the Doctoral Thesis.

 

The institution implementing the postgraduate study programme must permanently publish the doctoral thesis in a public online database of doctoral theses of the National and University Library, and one printed copy of the thesis must be submitted to the National and University Library.
